|
Students learn to identify and teach 40 basic asanas (poses) in Sanskrit; and further learn to combine the poses to create classes utilizing the unique"Iyengar" technique: instruction; body alignment; and explanation; while implementing the proper sequencing and rhythm that defines an "Iyengar" yoga class.
Students learn to teach 7 distinct classes; using the Iyengar Yoga "props" and including adding the dimension of sarvangasana (shoulder stand) to the classes. Creative exploration of the poses through Iyengar "rope work"; adds the gravitas of another Iyengar dimension to the classes. Students learn to instruct 2 Vedic chants in Sanskrit (one sacred and one secular); a 10 minute relaxation technique (savasana); "hands-on" adjustments for correct body alignment of the poses; a basic overview of human anatomy; and, Vedic studies pertaining to the philosophy of yoga via "The Yoga Sutras" by Patanjali. These courses further emphasize the importance of a daily personal yoga practice and the use of the book "Light on Yoga" by BKS Iyengar as a guide to all the contents involved in the yoga classes. Level 1: will prepare a student to teach a basic, 1 hour intro/beginner Iyengar-style yoga class, using NO props. Each participant teaches a 1 hour class on the last days of the course Level 2 evolves the basic poses of level 1 by adding the dimension of props: learning Iyengar "rope work". 5 approaches to Sarvangasana are explored. Students learn to integrate working with props (including "rope work"); and adding Sarvangasana into the rhythm and order of a beginner/advance beginner 1 ½ hour "vinyasa" class. Participants teach a 1 ½ hour class on the last days of the course. All classes begin with the "Iyengar" Sanskrit chant-learning this chant is part of the Level 1 and Level 2 courses. "The Rhythm of Yoga;Beginner Salutation" by Maggie Hughes; Iyengar Certified teacher;contains the beginner teaching details of these courses.
