A new non-profit organization dedicated to spreading Iyengar Yoga!
IyengarYoga.org is a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading the teachings of Yogacharya BKS Iyengar around the globe. They do this by providing education, Iyengar yoga products, and contact information for certified Iyengar teachers on their Web site. What really stands out about IyengarYoga.org is that they give grants to certified teachers to donate Iyengar yoga to special-interest groups that do not have access to Iyengar Yoga.
So far IyengarYoga.org has given three grants. The first was to pay a certified teacher in Canada to teach 9 classes to individuals with HIV, that grant also provided 24 blankets to the Hamilton Aids Network in Canada. Their second grant was awarded to a certified Iyengar teacher in New York City, who taught a special course for children. Most recently, IyengarYoga.org sponsored a larger grant which fully funded classes for 26 Parkinsonís patients from 57 to 91 years old.
Grants are available to certified Iyengar teachers only, in every country of the world. Teachers submit their ideas, and if awarded a grant, must provide pictures and an essay so that members can see where their support goes.
IyengarYoga.org is actively supporting the global community of Iyengar Yoga. Membership donations are tax-deductible and go towards supporting more grants which directly help spread Iyengar Yoga.
