YOGA - LOTUS POSITION - 1st Lesson Yoga Aid from Vino Rayen. Tuticorin, TN, India. February 3, 2003.(PRB) THE MORE YOU ENJOY PUTTING IN GOOD EFFORTS, THE GREAT WILL BE YOUR HAPPINESS OF RECEIVING THE FRUITS OF THOSE EFFORTS. The contemporary world is very Health Conscious. We know it for sure that our environment is highly polluted. The air we inhale is polluted. The water we drink is polluted because the rivers are polluted with chemical waste from factories. As a result we are getting sick very easily. It is learned that tons of dust particles are deposited even from the atmosphere, so the entire earth is gathering dust. Most of the world population is unable to breathe freely without an inhaler. Of course Asthma has become a common disease now-a-days. Chronic diseases are widespread all over the world. Subsequently human life span is getting reduced and human mortality rate increased. Lot of us are spending a lot for medical treatment everyday. Normally sick people can not eat properly due to lack of appetite & can not sleep tight during night hours due to illness. Most of the people we come across daily are seemingly in a gloomy outlook & inactive. When a person is not feeling well physically it causes him/her much mental suffering without fail. On the contrary the agents of insurance companies are very cheerful by selling more & more number of health related policies like med claim policies, hospitalization policy, healthcare policies etc. These policies are becoming expensive as the insurance companies are increasing the premium time & time again based on the past claim ratio. If this subject is explained in detail it would be elaborate. SOLUTION: To overcome these problems what steps need to be initiated? What should we do? Is there any remedy for this? At the same time it must be permanent & affordable too. Wait for a moment! Please don’t give up. The answer is ‘YES’. Yoga is the unique solution and perennial source of hope. Nobody can disagree with this statement. Prevention is the best medicine. Though India is the origin for Yoga, it has became familiar among westerners. All the more YOGA DAY is celebrated in USA every year. Do you feel that Yoga is not meant for you? Wrong perception. Don’t allow anything to be an obstacle. See everything as a stepping stone to Victory. More over Yoga is the food of the body & spirit. One Yoga Position everyday will be a fresh food and will provide the necessary nutrition & stimulant needed to keep the body healthy & enthusiastic. So start practicing Yoga from now on. There are around 25 Unique Yoga Positions suitable for everybody from child to elderly. As the first lesson Lotus Position is narrated hereunder which would be so easy to start with. If you spend an hour in worthwhile actions there is 1000 fold gain, if you waste an hour in useless actions there is 1000 fold loss. Yoga keeps us cheerful all the day. Cheerfulness keeps up the spirit of the one who possesses it and brings a smile to the lips of their loved ones. LOTUS POSITION: STEPS: PROCEDURE Needless to say that India is the origin for "YOGA ASANAS". In our beloved country hermits are called "YOGIS". "ASANA" means seating position. Only Yogis were reportedly practising Asanas in the early days. Hence these Asanas are named after "YOGIS". I would like to teach you "PADMASANA" as the first lesson. PADMAM + ASANA = "PADMASANA". PADMAM means Lotus. Asana means, as you know, position. "PADMASANA" is the unique asana to perform meditation. When we practise "PADMASANA" our backbone becomes straight. This enables us to inhale as much oxygen as we need. As a result our lungs are functioning to its full capacity. PRACTICE Spread a bedsheet on an even floor and sit down as usual on the bedsheet. Fold the right leg with the help of hands and keep the right foot on the left thigh. The heel should touch the lower abdomen. Likewise, keep the left foot on the right thigh, the heel should touch the lower abdomen. The lower portion of the feet are supposed to be facing upward. Both the knees should touch the floor firmly, sit straight. The beginners will find it difficult to perform it perfectly according to the instructions. Somebody may be able keep one leg on the thigh but not the other. The heel may not touch the lower abdomen. It would be severly paining for some people. These difficulties will vanish automatically in the course of regular practice. Eventually our perseverence wil be brought to frution. If we practise "PADMASANA" not less than 10 minutes every day it will have a very good effect as for as our health is concerned. RESULT: Our backbone is getting straightend. The process of purification of blood by the lungs becomes easier. In turn the heart is enabled to function systematically. We can get as much oxygen as our body requires. Automatically we become very active. Our nervous system is made perfect. "PADMASANA" gives us a good appetite. No stomach complaints will arise. POST-SCRIPT: (For Ladies Only) Ladies are advised not to practise "PADMASANA" during menstruation. Beginners should not practise this "Asana" while they are in the family way. Expert ladies can practise it upto the 8th month of thier pregnancy. There are two things – ACTION & the IMPACT behind the action. Even if the action is ordinary the impact must be positive, productive and creative. What keeps you from practicing Yoga from today? It would enable you to get rid of the diseases like ….. Do It Yourself regularly without break. Simply put, one should persevere so that your perseverance will be brought to fruition. If you are impatient to experience the results of your efforts, it is like trying to eat an unripe apple. Wish you Good Luck.
