bi-polar disorder Can't Post

I have a bi-polar disorder and have been in an 'episode' for the last few months. My teacher has recommended fewer standing poses, more forward bends and at least 2 inversions each practise.

Does anyone have ideas for asanas for different states? Sometimes I'm not even sure how to describe what I'm experiencing.

I do have a therapist and psychiatrist who are great about what my yoga teacher recommends along with medical interventions.

There are lots of books about depression but not any that I can find about other psychiatric difficulties.

Recommendations?

light on yoga has an appendix at the back of the book that lists the asanas by medical condition. however, when dealing with psychiatric issues, it's best to be in close communication with your doctors about other treatment modalities you are trying.
best of luck to you.

Thanks for your reply. I agree that it's important to have medical care but I believe that a strong yoga life can help provide the stability needed by someone with
psychiatric disorders. Of course a gifted teacher is very important but with moods swinging around it can be hard to be in touch with a teacher as often as necessary.

I get confused about when to do a practice emphasizing front bends or back bends. A standing practice might be best some days and a quiet one the next. it can change so quickly.
Medications can interfere with knowing which to do or how to sequence over a week or month.

Best wishes,
Ann

Thanks for pointing out this article. I hadn't seen it before.

I'm hoping to find a sequence or learn how to make a sequence to use in different phases.

I'd love to see this forum become more active.

have a good day.
