breast cancer Can't Post

hi.I have had a mastectomy last year, and doctors say my cancer is finished and done with.I didnt do any chemotherapy nor radiation,I'm only taking Tamoxifen.I'm also taking Iyengar Yoga classes twice a week. What i'm wodering is if I can do all the postures.as I have to be very careful with the arm as some lymph nodes were taken,I'm worried that doing postures like head stand or other things might have pressure on my arm. Please let me know.as I love doing all the postures.thank you in advance.with regard marjan

Re: breast cancer [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi, Marjan

I also had breast surgery, did not have chemotherapy and did not take taximofen. It happened in Brazil, in 1979! As soon as I could I started practicing Yoga ( I had started to study it in South Africa in 1976). I can do pretty much all the poses, excepting of course, the very difficult ones. What stops me is not a problem with the arm (left) but just because they are too difficult, My teacher for the last 20 years was Manouso, in San Francisco. However, I am now living in Lisbon and therefore do not have a teacher but go on practicing by myself. I wish you the luck and be sure that the arm heals and head stand, hand stand, pincha and all poses should be perfectly all right! Namaste! Noemia
