ostheoporosis Can't Post

Is it safe to practice iyengar yoga for a student with ostheoporosis. Are there any special asanas to strenghthen the bones? Thanks for any useful information. Lilita

I've just been led to this site and I see it's 2 months since you posted your enquiry, so this is perhaps a little late! As with any degenerative disease, osteoporosis can range from very mild to very severe so generalisations are not really a help. I would suggest seeking out an experienced certified Iyengar yoga teacher who understands osteoporosis and working with props, especially if the condition is advanced or if there is uncertainty. Under such expert guidance, Iyengar yoga would almost certainly be beneficial.
