Kevin, I was waiting to respond, hoping that someone who had more direct experience with diverticulosis would respond. I have Crohn's disease, which is another bowel disorder. And although I have and use some of Mr. Iyengar's sequences for this disorder the primary thing that helps me is consistent daily practice. So my main advice to you is don't let trying to do the "right" thing for diverticulosis get in your way of a daily practice. I would definitely integrate Supta Virasana, Supta Baddakonasana, Viparita Dandasana on a chair, cross bolsters, Chair Sarvangasana, Ardha Halasana, Setubandha Sarvangasana, and Viparita Karani into your practice. If you have ropes I would do rope Sirsasana. I would approach twists with caution until you can work with a senior Iyengar instructor who has experience with diverticulosis. But again my main advice is to practice daily. I hope this helps. Kind regards, jerry |
