CANNABIS Can't Post

I HAVE BEEN DOING IYENGAR YOGA FOR
NEARLY A YEAR. I HAVE READ THAT IT IS
USELESS TO PRACTISE AFTER ALCOHOL.
DOES THIS ALSO APPLY TO CANNABIS, AS I
SMOKE FREQUENTLY AND HAVE OFTEN
PRACTISED YOGA AFTER A SMALL JOINT.
AM I WASTING MY TIME TO THEN GO ON AND
PRACTISE, I HAVE NEVER NOTICED ANY ILL
EFFECTS

Yes you are wasting your time - you will learn this when you get the THC out of your system. It masks truth with delusional thinking that appears to be non-delusional -

Re: CANNABIS [In reply to] Can't Post

There are many kinds of yogic practice for different purposes. I practice yoga primarily to promote physical wholeness, injury resistance, and increased athletic capacity.

I have found pot can be useful occasionally to shake up stagnant practice in yoga and martial arts -- it confuses my mind in some ways, but it heightens it in others. Of course, in the long run, it's better to realize that highs come from your mind, not from drugs, and to migrate towards non-drug ways of getting where you need to go. I only use it a few times a year now, but when I do, it often yeilds useful experiences. Smoking all the time would certainly ruin it, though.

Categorically denying the usefulness of a drug to everyone everywhere in the name of one's own understanding of "truth" sounds like high-falutin' pretentious nonsense to me. I don't think yoga is a waste of time under any circumstance if you pursue it earnestly. Wherever you're going, you have to start from where you're at. If you're a pothead now, that's the reality, and you have to work with it. In my experience, most people with any sense of direction or purpose in life tend to lose interest in pot over time naturally, as doing it too much begins to seem like a waste of time and energy.

My advice is to practice. The more you practice the more you understand yourself. For myself I try not to put obstacles in front of my practice by saying things like "I have to do this" or "I have to change that". Eventually you will learn what is "good" for you and what is "bad". As your practice continues you will do more and more things that are "good" for you.

My two cents worth,
jerry
