B.K.S. Iyengar Can't Post

HI,

I have heard of rumours saying that B.K.S. Iyengar is suffering of heart trouble, and that he has stopped practising asanas as well as teaching altogether because of this.

I just can't imagine the Lion of Pune has finally gone into retirement?! What is true about these rumours? Thanks.

Re: B.K.S. Iyengar [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

as far as I know, there is no truth about these rumours.

Somebody I know has just been to India, and he says that BKS Iyengar was as fit as ever. For example, he was doing Dwi Pada Viparita Dandasana for ten minutes.

Regards,

Ivan

Although I don't consider that the individual health problems of BKS or any other yogi should be considered as somehow damaging to yoga as a whole (and in the Tree of Yoga BKS himself is clear about this), you can find this claim in the book http://www.beacon.org/excerpt/excerptyoga.htm How We Live Our Yoga. I find the book quite conscious of the negative effects of Westernising yoga, and it doesn't appear anti-Iyengar to me.
