The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Northern and Southern California has some information. They also have a yoga Video by Eric Small who has MS himself and is a certified Iyengar Instructor.

Dear natom

during a recent workshop in Amsterdam, I asked Manouso Manos what I should do with a student of mine who is suffering from MS. The answer he gave was:

a) don't let him/her get exhausted. The student shouldn't start sweating, they shouldn't become tired.

b) as soon as possible, do a lot of inverted poses with the student (if they are able to, i.e. if they have taken classes for a while and have some experience).

c) make it clear from the beginning that yoga will not perform any miracles. That means that yoga will not heal MS, but it can raise the quality of life considerably.

The above are of course just rough guidelines. If you can, you should work with an experienced Iyengar yoga teacher, who can take care of your specific situation.

You might be able to find more information be searching Google for iyengar yoga multiple sclerosis.
The Yoga Research and Education Center has a leaflet with resources on yoga and MS: http://www.iayt.org/multiplesclerosis.pdf (a PDF file).

Re: Multiple Sclerosis [In reply to] Can't Post

I have worked with a student with MS for five months once a week, having followed the tree rules. Because it (the weather) is gradually getting warmer and warmer he will need more relaxes. I thought also about breathing exercises or a kind of preparation to pranayama. Is it a good idea and what should he avoid doing it/ what could be especially advised for him?
