Re: Kriya yoga? [In reply to] Can't Post

Patanjali's Yoga Sutras say, "Ascesis, self-study and devotion to the Lord constitute Kriya yoga" (II.1). The Kriya part of that sutra is often erased in the translations. Georg Feuerstein's translation makes a big point out of it, though. Feuerstein's commentary is interesting. The Shambhala Encyclopedia of Yoga (also by Feuerstein) includes Kriya yoga in one of its entries, with citations to other texts in which Kriya is discussed. Kriya yoga is practiced by the members of the Self-Realization Fellowship, which was founded by the author of Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramahamsa Yogananda. According to the Encyclopedia entry, Yogananda's Kriya yoga seeks to awaken the kundalini through breath control and mental focusing on the basis of bhakti, or devotional, practices.
