Tree pose Can't Post

I find this post particularly difficult. It's not balancing that's hard - the problem is that I can't get my bent leg/foot to stay up against my thigh for more than a couple of seconds - it seems to have a mind of its own! It is worse with one leg than the other. I've tried wearing shorts in the hope that bare skin will be easier to grip but this doesn't really help. I'd be grateful for any tips about how to tackle this pose.

The trick is not in the lifted leg but in the standing leg.
Think about pressing your thigh into your foot and not the other way around.
Try standing with both feet flat on the floor and think of moving your thighs together. This is the feeling you need to get again when stood on one leg.
I still get some problems with slipping due to friction and find skin to skin contact best but in reality it all comes from your base.

I would practice, approach it, from several different ways until you develop the correct strength and action.

1) Hold the leg up
2) Knee into wall
3) Back against (or very near) the wall
4) Lying on the floor, Supta Vrksasana
5) Classical Vrksasana

Thank you very much to those who replied with suggestions. I am now getting the hang of it! One of the things I realised also was that I was destabilising myself by sticking my bottom out.
