Achilles Tendinitis Can't Post

I would be interested in any comments you may have concerning treatment of Achilles Tendinitis. I understand that it is not uncommon for athletes and dancers to develop this problem. I wonder if it is very prevalent with yoga practitioners? Any suggestions as to best practices or possible therapy for yoga practitioners?

Re: Achilles Tendinitis [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Tom
I was a dancer who got achilles Tendonitis through endless intense classical training and it is still with me through years of yoga. Apart from rest and warmth and tiger balm , I have found that inner ankle/ outer ankle balance and alignment in every stretching movement is crucial to avoid a flare up; also extra patience and not forcing the stretch but waiting for it helps. Otherwise... it's a bummer.

Thanks for your response Scott. Your observations concerning the balance and alignment of the inner ankle/ outer ankle in stretching movement are helpful and consistent with my experience. I've noticed that towing out slightly seems to aggravate the condition. I also received a suggestion to focus on gentle stretching the calf (gastrocnemius/soleus muscle) and ankle region four times daily. Any experience with wrapping the ankle and heel to promote healing?
Thanks,
Tom

Re: Achilles Tendinitis [In reply to] Can't Post

In class I always wear ankle warmers even in spring and autumn, but they must be pure wool, no acrylic rubbish. I just slip the bit that goes over the heel up and down depending on the pose. Makes a big difference. I can't imagine wrapping the area and doing class, because of the restrictions, but I am open to suggestions.
