outside certification/Yoga Alliance Can't Post

I am here to inquire about the Yoga Alliance certification. Is this a certification that is sanctioned by the Iyengar community?

I am a teacher at the Big Island Yoga Center, Kona, Hawaii. I am considering relocating to Oregon and would like some sort of credentials to facillitate teaching Iyengar yoga in a new community.. I have been teaching at this studio in Hawaii since 1998 and have attended workshops with Aadil Palkhivala, Felicity Green, Mary Obendorfer and Eddy Marks, John Leebold and Joan White prior to and during the time I have been teaching.

At this time I am semi retired and earn my living through teaching Iyengar yoga and giving massage. Going through the process of certification is not a reasonable possibility for me now for a number of reasons.

Thank you for your help on this,

Kevin Brooks

My understanding is that only the national Iyengar organization can certify anyone to teach Iyengar yoga. So I think it's fair to say that Yoga Alliance certification is not sanctioned. You would probably hear an objection from the national organization if you got Yoga Alliance certification and then held yourself out as an Iyengar teacher, because you might accidentally mislead people into thinking that you have Iyengar certification.

Yoga Alliance is a registering body, they do not offer certification. Many different schools and organizations offer certification that meets the standards to become a registered yoga teacher (RYT) with the YA. The Iyengar certification meets the standards, however you may want to question the value of paying yet more money to become a RYT when Iyengar certification is already well respected and recognized.
