sciatica Can't Post

What postures would be most beneficial for a novice with sciatica and lower disc problems?
What postures would exacerbate the problem? Looking forward to hearing from a teacher who has experience in this regard.

When you do standing forward bend, try first only going 1/2 way down so your torso remains parallel to the floor and perperdicular to your legs, rest your hands on the back of a chair or on a ledge, and most important, turn your toes in a little and your heels out.

I used Uttanasana intensely with hips sockets belted tightly to overcome my sciatica. I also
took one foot and leg to correct position and used the other foot to stand across the metatarsis
to anchor my standing foot so I could really work the standing leg properly. This allowed me to ascend thigh and descend calf while opening the back of the knee. Horizontal action of the muscles are also critical to the work. This was not easy and it was unbearable in the beginning but I have not had any problems with sciatica for many years. Always consult your teacher before trying something new especially in a therapeutic way. I am an Iyengar teacher.

Can you please describe "hip sockets belted tightly"in Uttanasana. Thank you.

Hello,

You asked about belting the hips in Uttanasana.

I truly mean that. Take one of your yoga belts and loop it around your entire body at your hip joints (sockets)
Pull it tightly for support.
